What Your Ultrasonic Exams Can Tell You

Pregnancy is a very exciting time for everyone, not just for expectant parents. Relatives and friends are beyond themselves with excitement and plan to give the baby when he / she is born. Pregnancy is an exciting event because it breathes new life into the world and anticipates the start of a new family member. When a new arrival is destined for the future, it often affects everyone and brings everyone closer together.

The expectation of a new family member allows people to wonder what gender the baby will be and what they will look like. Because babies are hidden in the womb, families had to wait until the baby was born to learn these things. Nowadays, families can get a taste of their little one months before they have to be born. You can see a newborn by having an ultrasound examination done at your Best Obstetrician in Lahore.

An ultrasound is a high-frequency sound wave test that you can use to look into the womb. But how does it work? Well, sound waves are sent to your womb, the fetus bounces and comes back. Using advanced technology, the sound waves provide an overview of what the womb and fetus look like. The sound waves are then displayed on a screen in black and white images.

The sound waves are completely harmless to you and your fetus. You never have to worry about your baby’s health if you get an ultrasound. Part of the reason why ultrasonic technology is so valuable is because it is a non-invasive method to control your baby’s development process.

First ultrasound

Your first ultrasound should usually occur somewhere between six and seven weeks in your pregnancy. In this ultrasound examination, the ultrasound technician will look for the baby’s heartbeat and estimate the age of the fetus and see the Normal Delivery. Estimating this piece of information is important because then your OBGY doctor knows exactly when to give birth. Another very important reason for this first ultrasound examination is to see if you have an ectopic pregnancy or one that grows outside the womb.

Second ultrasound

Your second ultrasound exam takes place between 11 and 13 weeks. This is called screening for the first trimester and is used to determine any chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus, such as Down syndrome. One way to test for this genetic disorder is to perform a neck fold measurement (NT Scan). In this test, the translucent skin on the back of the neck of the fetus is tested. Typically, babies with Down syndrome have phenotypically an excessive amount of neck tissue in this area. Therefore, by measuring how much excess skin there is, doctors can see if a child has Down syndrome.

Third ultrasound

Another ultrasound can take place anywhere from 18 to 20 weeks. This investigation usually scans for abnormalities or growth problems from start to finish. In this ultrasound, doctors can determine if something is wrong in the development phase that occurs. An example of this can be a body part that grows larger and faster than others.

Multiple Ultrasounds

If you are asked to have multiple ultrasound exams, you don’t have to worry. And if you are told that you no longer need exams, you don’t have to worry. However, if your OBGY doctor asks you for multiple echoes, it is primarily intended to monitor the growth of your baby. For example if you have multiple babies, have diabetes or if your baby shows lethal movement or breathing. However, judging your baby’s health based on the number of echoes you have is not an accurate measurement. Sometimes doctors will ask for multiple ultrasounds with the sole purpose of following the full development of the baby.

Gender Reveals

If you want to keep the sex of the baby secret, you must indicate that you want that part of the ultrasound to be unknown. Do not be alarmed if a nurse or doctor refers the fetus to a specific pronoun. Just because they say “watch his movement”, this does not necessarily mean that your child will be born a boy. Sometimes the use of pronouns is a habit that is difficult to break. Make sure you tell your doctor that you do not want to know your baby’s gender and that they will not tell you. After all, if you have entrusted a good OBGY doctor and staff, they will know better than to reveal a gender.

An ultrasound technician can tell the sex of your baby during the anatomical examination of the fetus, although it can sometimes be done earlier. Most of the reasons why it takes time to reveal the gender is due to the positioning of the baby in the womb. If he / she is confronted with a face, the doctor can only see this after the full body scan has taken place.
